  • On Friday, 20th June, our club gathered at The Anglers in Carrigrohane to celebrate the summer solstice with a midsummer barbecue.   • Astronomy on Tap

  • CAC meets Prof Brian Cox

    On May 15th. 21 members of CAC got to meet up with the renowned Prof Brian Cox backstage in Cork Opera House.  Brian very graciously met us for ten minutes or so prior to his show, Horizons, a 21st.   • The last public lecture of the season is by tradition Members Night and in a first, and this year we had music.  Colm Philpott (main photo) sang his own compositions about Titan, Mars, Europa, and the Pinwheel Galaxy.   • Bright Winter Solstice, Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year everyone! A big THANK YOU to John Roche for organizing this years Christmas party in the Bodega.   • This years Observers Group Christmas Party and Toy Show was held in the Killumney Inn on 27 Nov 2023, and was, as always, a great success.  Derek O’Keefe linked up live to his observatory in North Cork and we saw how he can remotely control his scope and run an imaging session.  Garry O’Brien took us through this months Image… “read more”


  • To Spain for Solar eclipse, August 2026

    An outing to Spain is being planned to witness a total solar eclipse on 12 August 2026.  The pale blue line on the map shows the path of totality. This is one of the closest total eclipses to Ireland in a while, and Cork Astronomy Club will be organising a trip lasting about three days to view it.  There is,… “read more”


  • The weather on Friday 21st December looked unpromising for a visit to Drombeg stone circle–but perseverance was rewarded when about 25 members and their friends briefly witnessed–or almost witnessed–the solstice sunset there.
