What personal data we collect and why we collect it

Cork Astronomy Club has updated its privacy policy and systems to General Data Protection Regulation standards. As a club, Cork Astronomy Club holds personal details of our members. This is so that the club can register members as part of the club and communicate with them. The information is provided on registration with the club.

This information consists of the names and addresses of all members and email addresses, landline and mobile phone numbers for most members.

We also invite members from time to time to join particular groups within the club (such as the observing group) and the member provides a name and phone number.

Cork Astronomy Club keeps all information in strict confidentiality.

We do not share personal information with other members of the club –  save only with those members who are directly involved with running/administration of the club where necessary.

For people who are not members of the club, the club offers a subscription to a guest bulletin. This is provided by Any person wishing to subscribe is invited to provide email address, first name, last name and consent to receive bulletins. The sign up page for the bulletin confirms that this data is sent to Mailchimp in order to receive the bulletin.

Cork Astronomy Club is not responsible for the content or privacy practices of other linked websites.

Information collected will be securely filed and will be retained no longer than necessary.

Personal information collected through the website

Cork Astronomy Club does not collect any personal data about you on this website, apart from information which you volunteer in subscribing to the guest bulletin. Any information which you provide in this manner is used by Cork Astronomy Club only for the purpose for which it is provided. It is not made available to any third parties except for (a) MailChimp who run the bulletin service, which requires a subscriber’s consent, and (b) as may be required by law or through voluntary cooperation with law enforcement authorities if we judge that such cooperation is necessary to combat fraud or other crime.
