  • CAC meets Prof Brian Cox

    On May 15th. 21 members of CAC got to meet up with the renowned Prof Brian Cox backstage in Cork Opera House.  Brian very graciously met us for ten minutes or so prior to his show, Horizons, a 21st.   • 3D Printing

    3D printing may not be something you normally associate with astronomy but you never know when you might need that vital piece to connect accessories.  Club member Dan McLoughlin gave an amazing workshop on all the processes involved in 3D printing.  Dan rounded off the workshop by designing and producing a 3D part.  Should enough members express an interest Dan… “read more”


  • This years Observers Group Christmas Party and Toy Show was held in the Killumney Inn on 27 Nov 2023, and was, as always, a great success.  Derek O’Keefe linked up live to his observatory in North Cork and we saw how he can remotely control his scope and run an imaging session.  Garry O’Brien took us through this months Image… “read more”


  • Lets Talk Books Workshop, Nov 2023

    Lets Talk Books was the subject of the workshop held on November 18th.  Members brought along a selection of books broadly related to astronomy, space, science etc which they could recommend to other members or indeed donate or swap.  The discussion ranged over their favourite authors and topics.  As usual the discussion was helped along with tea, coffee and biscuits. … “read more”


  • New Members Morning, Oct 2023

    On Saturday, October 21st , we welcomed new members to Tory Top Library for an introductory meeting.  This was an informal introduction to the Club, how it is structured, typical Club activities, both social and astronomy related, how to get the best out of the Club along with what new members could offer the Club.  The informal session was rounded… “read more”


  • Solar Observing Workshop, Nov 2023

    Club member Jan Cap organised a fascinating workshop on all things solar including how to safely observe the Sun.  This was held on 5 Nov 2023 at his own observatory and as it was weather dependent was scheduled at short notice.  Cover image shows Jan demonstrating how to use a scope specially adapted to safely observe the sun and below… “read more”


  • The new state of the art library in Bandon was the location of our Astrophotography Exhibition for October which coincided with Science Week.  The exhibition is currently being revamped with sone new exciting images being added. “read more”


  • Telescope Clinic, Sept 2023

    Our annual telescope workshop was held on September 30th at Tory Top Road Library. Club members brought along their scopes for “expert” advice on how to get the most out of their scopes.  This included, assembly and setting up the scope, collimation, accessories and how to attach a camera.  Some new members also came along to examine the range of… “read more”
