Not all astronomy is done with a telescope. Large-scale cosmological simulations, run on high performance computers around the world, provide an unique view of the cosmos as well as crucial theoretical predictions that then inform astronomical observations. In this public lecture to Cork Astronomy Club, now available on our YouTube channel, Michael Tremmel of University College, Cork, presents some findings of simulations of the evolution of structure in the Universe, from the cosmic web formed by Dark Matter to the evolution of galaxies within that web, all illustrated with animations from the simulations.
Cork Astronomy Club promotes astronomy to a general audience. We hold lecture meetings for Club members and the general public on the second Monday of each month from September to May. A selection of lectures is recorded and made available to a wider audience on our YouTube channel.
