“An astronomer’s guide to the periodic table of elements” – 14th October 2024

Where did all of the hydrogen in the Universe come from? Why is lithium such a rare element? What’s the connection between the date August 17th, 2017 and the iodine in your thyroid? Join Dr. Mark Kennedy as he answers these questions and more, through an astronomer’s view of the periodic table of the elements.

Dr Mark Kennedy lecturers in UCC’s School of Physics.  Has worked on the “Invisible Monsters” project, attempting to find the hidden population of black holes using machine learning and next generation all-sky surveys.  Mark gave a highly acclaimed talk to our Cluib last year  and we are delighted to has accpeted an invitaiton ot address us again.

Where and when:  UCC’s Ashley Cummins building (formerly known as Civil Engineering, near College Road entrance to the main campus).   8 pm, Monday 9th Sept 2024.  Please arrive 10 minutes early or earlier if you wish to join our Club.  This is a public lecture, all welcome.  For UCC map go to Calendar.
