Who we are
Founded in 1978, Cork Astronomy Club is a vibrant group of amateur astronomers with an interest in the planets, stars, the wider universe, space exploration, and the history of astronomy. We are an active group, organizing and getting involved in many activities in Ireland, and also around the world. Our website address is: https://corkastronomyclub.com.
What personal data we collect and why we collect it
Cork Astronomy Club has updated its privacy policy and systems to General Data Protection Regulation standards. Cork Astronomy Club does not collect any personal data about you on this website, apart from information which you volunteer to share when using our website communication forms. This may include personal data such as names, email addresses, mobile phone numbers, personal addresses, and technical data generated by the user interaction with our website, contact forms, cookies and analytics. Any information which you provide in this manner is used by Cork Astronomy Club only for the purpose for which it is provided. Cork Astronomy Club keeps all information in strict confidentiality. Information collected will be securely filed and will be retained no longer than necessary.
For website visitors who wish to become members of Cork Astronomy Club, their Personal information is used by the Club for communication purposes as part of activities the Club is organizing (invitations to events, observing sessions, lectures, OnLive events, shipment of membership cards, etc). Members who are directly involved with running/administration of Cork Astronomy Club will access this information only where necessary.
For website visitors who are not members of Cork Astronomy Club, the Club offers a subscription to a Guest Bulletin. This is provided by https://mailchimp.com. Any person wishing to subscribe is invited to provide email address, first name, last name, and consent to receive bulletins. The sign up page for the bulletin, and the verification email sent by our website later on, confirms that this data is sent to Mailchimp in order to receive the bulletin. Technical data such IP addresses are also included for verification purposes.
Cork Astronomy Club is not responsible for the content or privacy practices of other linked websites.
Media
As a Cork Astronomy Club member, if you upload images to the website, you should avoid including embedded location data (EXIF GPS). Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment.

Akismet – Anti Spam Service
We collect information about visitors who comment on our website that use our Akismet Anti-spam service. The information we collect typically includes the commenter’s IP address, user agent, referrer, and Site URL (along with other information directly provided by the commenter such as their name, username, email address, and the comment itself).
What rights you have over your data
You may request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
